Finally....a Clothesline!

Finally……I have my own clothesline!!!!!  Isn’t this just great???!!!

I know…. you are probably thinking, “What’s the big deal?”  Well, I’ve wanted a clothesline for years now, but couldn’t have one where I lived before; so in order to make up for the loss of the clothesline, I used my Mom’s old fashion dryer rack that she had given to me (see below).  This rack worked well when it was super hot outside and the wind wasn’t strong.  I can’t tell you how many times I would look out the window only to find that the wind had knocked over my rack and all of my clothes were in a wet and dirty heap!  The best part of it all, try picking this thing up after it’s fallen over with clothes attached to it; I felt like I was being attacked by own laundry!
I told the Mayor that I wanted my own clothesline when we move into our temporary home;  a place where I can watch my clean laundry blowing freely in the breeze!!!  Shortly after we moved in, my father in law told me that he bought me a “clothes drier” and that he was going to put it up for me!  YAY!  I was super excited!!!!  Isn’t it just beautiful? And I’m saving energy and using natural resources just like my ancestors did!   Now all I have to do is get my hedge clippers and give that bush a little trim!
Does anyone have a clothesline story to share?  How about tips/suggestions on making clothes a bit softer when using nature to dry them?  I asked my good friend Jen if her bath towels came out stiff after being line dried, she replied “yes, but it’s like having a natural loofah!”  What a wonderful way to look at stiff towels…..I never quite thought of it that way!
Until next time y'all……

  2. I recently started using my clothesline again, too. It's so nice to have fresh smelling clothes from the line! I don't hang my towels or my whites (that's my compromise with the hubby), so I don't have advice about that. But I do love the positive attitude about them being a loofa! haha

    1. Hi Jamie, I am so glad that you have started using your clothesline again too! There is such a sense of satisfaction and relaxation when I look out the window and see my clothes drying in the warm sunshine! At my old home, I would partially dry the towels and hang them out, and I did not have any issues with stiffness; but I'm trying to get away from the dryer completely. I will keep trying....I'm not giving up just yet!

  3. A clothes line is the best thing! Sunshine makes sheets smell and feel beautiful. That is the only way to dry sheets. Your line is beautiful.
I have a line and no dryer. And I like it that way!

  4. Oh, that looks so nice! I want a clothes line so bad! We found one made out of pipe that someone was giving away so we got it. But they had cut the pipe off at the ground. So now we have to figure out a way to make a base so we can set it up. It's been on the "to do" list for ever, I just can't seem to get Hubby enthused to do it.
Oh, and about stiff towels, I've read that if you shake/snap them right before you hang them, it makes them softer. I don't know if that's true or would work.. and can't test it out yet either.

    1. Hi Shelly,
I am definitely going to try the shake/snap method and let you know how they turn out. I also commented earlier about partially drying them which helps immensely however, I'm trying to get away from the dryer completely, so I need to keep experimenting.
If you would like to email me a picture of your clothesline, I could have my extremely handy husband take a look and explain to you what he would do so that you too can get your clothesline up. Just a suggestion--we can be reached at thelewisfamilyfarm14@gmail.com
thanks for stopping by the farm.......

  5. I'm lke you and would prefer to get away from using the dryer as much as possible. The only thing I'd probably use it for is whites just because I don't have patience to hang a bunch of socks. Ha!
Thank you for offering to figure out a way to help get our clothes line up! I will get a pic of it soon and send it to you.
    Shelly
